What are learning formats?

Learning formats are the content elements that make up a learning activity — such as a text block, video, or question. Multiple learning formats together form a complete learning activity, like an e-learning or a microlearning.

Which learning formats can I use?

Your online academy offers a variety of learning formats. Below is an overview of all the formats you can use within your academy.

Where can I create learning formats?

In your online academy, you can create learning formats in two places:

Generally, learning formats will be created from within a learning activity.
All learning formats you create are automatically stored in the Warehouse, making it easy to reuse them later. In this article, we’ll explain both methods.

Creating learning formats via a learning activity

Some learning activities — such as e-learnings and microlearnings — allow you to build the content yourself using learning formats.
Within these activities, you can add learning formats as follows:

  1. Go to "Content" and open an e-learning or microlearning.

  2. In an e-learning, open a component, then a paragraph.
In a microlearning, go to the Content tab.

  3. Select the desired learning format by clicking the corresponding block.
To view all available formats, click "All learning formats".

  4. To learn how to add content and adjust settings for a specific format, refer to the article about that learning format.

Creating learning formats via the Warehouse

You can also create standalone learning formats in the Warehouse.

  1. Go to the "Content" section and open the "Warehouse" tab.

  2. Click the plus icon in the top right corner.

  3. Select the desired learning format by clicking the corresponding block.

  4. To learn how to add content and adjust settings for a specific format, refer to the article about that learning format.

If you want to add the learning format to a learning activity, you can find it using "Search and reuse existing content" within the activity you’re working on.

Tip!

When creating learning formats, it's a good idea to add learning objectives and tags. This makes it easier to find your content in the Warehouse later on. If you’re planning to use this feature, it’s worth aligning with your colleagues in advance on which learning objectives and tags you’ll use. That way, you can apply them consistently and keep the Warehouse organized and efficient.
