What are learning activities?

In your online academy, you can enable users to learn in various ways. For example, you can offer short modules, create comprehensive learning paths, organize meetings, and assess knowledge. The different courses you can create, we call learning activities. The content of learning activities is built using learning formats.

How do I add new learning activities?

  1. Go to 'Content' via the menu bar.

  2. Click on 'Add'.

  3. Choose the type of learning activity you want to add. For an overview of the types of learning activities you can choose from, see the bottom of this article.

  4. Add the general information.

    • Title: Give the learning activity a title, so you can easily find it in the library.

    • Author: By default, the name of the academy is used as the name under 'Author'.

    • Study time: Here, you can provide an indication of the study time.

    • Themes: Add at least one theme.

    • Description: Here, you can add additional information about the learning activity, such as its main objective.

    • Skills: Add up to five skills here that you develop with this learning activity. This is optional.

  5. Click on 'Create new learning activity’.

Which learning activities can I add?

Settings for learning activities

There are many settings you can configure for a learning activity. Below you can find an overview of all the options you may encounter on the settings page of learning activities.

Note!

The available settings vary depending on the type of learning activity. Not all options listed below will appear on every learning activity's settings page.

Settings

Status

Here, you can define the status of the learning activity to reflect its current stage of development. The status is for your own reference and does not affect how the learning activity functions.

There are three statuses to choose from:

  • Draft: The learning activity is not yet complete. This status is assigned automatically when a new learning activity is created.

  • Published: The learning activity is fully set up and accessible to users.

  • Archived: The learning activity is no longer in use and should be considered archived.

Language

Select the language of the learning activity here. You can choose from the languages that are available in your academy's basic settings.
Users can filter by language in the Library when searching for learning activities.

Recommend this learning activity

When you enable this toggle, the learning activity will appear on the Dashboard with a "Recommended" label on its tile. The tile will also be shown at the top of the Library, provided the learning activity has been added to a collection. This helps draw extra attention to the activity for users.

Limitless duration

When you enable this toggle, the learning activity will remain available indefinitely for users who are enrolled.

If you disable the toggle, you can set a specific period during which the learning activity remains available to a user, starting from their enrollment date. Once this period ends, the user will be automatically unenrolled and will no longer have access to the learning activity.

You can define this duration using the two input fields that appear:

  • Amount: Enter a number here.

  • Interval: Choose between days, weeks, or months.

Deadline

If you set a deadline, the user will see it displayed on the tile of the learning activity.
After the deadline has passed, the user will still have access to the learning activity.

Additionally, if the activity hasn’t been completed yet, the user will receive an email and notification two days before the deadline.

User will receive a certificate after completion

When you enable this toggle, users will receive a certificate upon completing the learning activity.

External mapping

You may leave this field empty.

It only applies if a custom API integration has been built for your environment. In that case, discuss its use with your Customer Success Manager.

Available for LTI

This allows you to generate LTI details to make the learning activity available through an external page.
You can read more about LTI integrations in this article.

Available on the settings page for e-learnings, exams, microlearnings, and Learning Playlists.

Integration Brainpower

This allows you to link a Brainpower collection to an e-learning and base it on that content.
You can read more about the Brainpower integration in this article.

Available on the settings page for e-learnings and exams.

Limitless amounts of resits

When you enable this toggle, users can retake the learning activity as many times as they like.

If you disable the toggle, you can define how many times users are allowed to retake the activity by entering a number in the "Resits per user" field.

Available on the settings page for qualification inventories and skill measurements.

Exemptions

An exemption allows users who have already completed part of a previous learning activity to skip another activity that contains the same content. These users are granted an exemption and can skip the learning activity.

In this setting, you can define when a user is exempt from the learning activity.
In the dropdown menu under "You've an exemption for this activity when you've achieved one of the following activities", you can select which activity or activities must be completed to trigger the exemption.

Exemptions can be configured for the following learning activities, and these types can also be used as the source for granting an exemption:
e-learning, exam, LTI, SCORM, Learning Playlist, external exam, and file assignment
.

Add admin

If an administrator doesn’t have the rights to manage learning activities, you can grant them editing rights specifically for this learning activity.
To do this, click "Add" and select the administrator(s) you want to grant access to.

You can read more in this article about situations where this option may be useful.

Collections

Add a learning activity to a collection here. Users who have access to the selected collection will then be able to find the learning activity in the Library.

Template

This makes the learning activity available as a template.
The template can then be used as the basis for creating a new e-learning.

This setting is only available for e-learnings.

Manage notifications

Manage who receives email notifications about new session enrollments and canceled sessions.

Available on the settings page for sessions.
