With a hand-in assignment, you ask your users to complete an assignment outside the online academy, such as in Word, and then upload it. You can optionally add templates to ensure that all assignments follow the same structure and format. The evaluator of the assignment will be notified when the assignment is submitted.
How to add a hand-in assignment?
You can add a hand-in assignment as a learning activity or as a learning format within an e-learning or microlearning.
Hand-in assignment as a learning activity
Go to ‘Courses’ via the menu bar.
Click on ‘Add’.
Choose the learning activity ‘File assignment’.
Add the general information. Fill in the title, study time, theme(s), and optionally a description. Then, click on 'Create new learning activity’.

Author.
Study time. Here, you can provide an indication of the study time.
Themes. Add at least one theme.
Description. Here, you can add additional information about the learning activity. For example, the main objective of it.
Skills. Add up to five skills here that you develop with this learning activity. This is optional.
Optionally add a template. Go to the ‘Hand-in Assignment' tab and drag the document to the field, or choose a file from your computer via 'Select a file’. You can, for example, add a scheme or step-by-step guide to provide users with a structure for completing the assignment.
Set the evaluator. Go to the ‘Hand-in Assignment' tab and under the heading 'Assessor’, choose who will evaluate the submitted assignments: administrators or managers. Depending on your choice, administrators or managers will receive submitted assignments for evaluation at Approvals. Add a title and optionally a description. Based on the title, the hand-in assignment will be saved in the Warehouse. You can hide the title from users, by clicking on the eye icon next to the title.

💡 Tip: Learning objectives and tags
You can add learning objectives and tags to learning formats. Learning objectives are useful, for example, to create exams based on learning objectives. Using tags helps you to easily find content in the Warehouse. As you start typing, suggestions will immediately appear for learning objectives and tags you have used before.
Which files can I upload?
Various file types are supported for uploading as templates or hand-in assignments. Below are the supported types:
Word documents
Excel documents
PowerPoint documents
PDF documents
Images
Video
.avi
.mov
.mp4
.mpeg
.mkv
If the user uploads a video file, they can also play the video from the academy after uploading.
The maximum file size for documents and images is 50 MB. The maximum file size for videos is 1 GB.
Who can evaluate the hand-in assignment?
Assessor
You can set who can evaluate the hand-in assignment: administrators or managers. If administrators are set as assessor, only administrators can view and evaluate the submitted assignments. Vice versa for managers: only managers can view and evaluate the submitted assignments when set as assessor.
Rights
Only administrators or managers with the appropriate rights will receive submitted assignments for evaluation. This ensures that a submitted assignment reaches the right person. The way you assign rights differs for administrators and managers.
Evaluation
The administrators or managers, that you have set as evaluators, will receive an automatic notification when an assignment is submitted. The evaluator can approve or reject the hand-in assignment, after filling in the score in percentages. Optionally, feedback can be provided to support the evaluation. A file containing the feedback can be uploaded using the upload option at the bottom of the page. If the evaluator rejects the assignment, they can choose to allow the user a resit, by enabling the 'Submit assignment again' option.
If the user has uploaded a video, the evaluator can play it directly from the academy.
