Microlearnings are small pieces of learning content that a user can complete in a maximum of 10 minutes. They are short and highly usable, focusing on a specific topic. You have the option to present microlearnings in various formats.

Benefits of microlearnings

  • Learning doesn't have to be a scheduled activity and can be done quickly and on-the-go, making it easily accessible. This makes the barrier to learning very low!

  • Microlearnings reduce cognitive load and do not require users to have a long attention span.

How to create a microlearning?

  • Navigate to 'Courses' on the menu bar.

  • Click on 'Add'.

  • Choose 'Microlearning' as the type of learning activity and click on 'Microlearning', 'File', 'Link' or 'Video'. Learn more about the different forms here.

  • Add the general information. Fill in the title, study time, theme(s), and optionally a description. Then click on 'Create new activity'.

    • Title. Give the microlearning a title so you can easily find it in the library.

    • Author.

    • Study time. Indicate the expected study time.

    • Themes. Add at least one theme.

    • Description. Here you can add additional information about the learning activity, such as its main objective.

    • Skills. Add up to five skills here that you develop with this learning activity. This is optional.

What are the different forms of microlearnings?

Microlearning

A microlearning is built up from different learning formats.

  • Adding learning formats

You can add up to three different learning formats. You are free to choose which formats to use, for example: text, video, and question.

  • Learning objectives and tags

For each learning format, you can add learning objectives and tags. Progress and activity are measured for each learning objective. When you use tags, you can easily find content (learning formats) in the Warehouse. Start typing and suggestions for learning objectives and tags you have used before will appear immediately.

File

You can also have users read or view files from your online academy. In this article, we will explain the best way to do this.

Link

Within your online academy, you can add links to external pages. This allows you to share interesting articles with your users, among other things. Discover all the possibilities that come with adding a link and learn how to do it in this article.

Video

You can add a video within an e-learning, but you can also add a video as a standalone microlearning in your online academy. This allows you to include it as part of your Learning Playlist. Simply type or copy a URL to the desired video and add it directly. You can add a video from YouTube, Vimeo, or Ted.
