Do you want to assess whether your users possess sufficient knowledge? The best way to do that is with an exam.

Within the online academy, there are three types of exams:

In this article, we will explain how this last one works and what you can do with it: Exam.

What is an exam?

Within an exam you can present questions. By doing so, you can assess the knowledge level of users. You can, optionally, alternate these questions with other learning formats that are not tested.

How do I create an exam?

The exam is one of the learning activities you can create within the online academy.

  • Go to ‘Courses’ via the menu bar.

  • Click on ‘Add’.

  • Choose the learning activity ‘Exam’ and click on ‘Create an exam’.

  • Add the general information. Fill in the title, study time, theme(s), and optionally a description. Then, click on 'Create new learning activity’.

    • Title. Give the exam a title, so you can easily find it in the library.

    • Author.

    • Study time. Here, you can provide an indication of the study time.

    • Themes. Add at least one theme.

    • Description. Here, you can add additional information about the learning activity. For example, the main objective of it.

    • Skills. Add up to five skills here that you develop with this learning activity. This is optional.

Adding a test

You can add a test within an exam or e-learning. You can choose between a 'Normal test' and a 'Test matrix’. Below is an explanation of the differences.

Normal test

In this test format, you manually add questions by clicking on 'Add question’. In doing so, you can choose from several types of questions. You can also search for existing questions in the Warehouse, by typing a part of the question in the search bar labeled as ‘Search and reuse existing content’.

Test matrix

In a test matrix, your test is structured based on learning objectives. You start by creating clusters of learning objectives. You determine the number of questions each cluster should have yourself. The system automatically selects questions for each user. By clicking on 'Synchronize,' you can generate a new set of questions. The questions that can be asked in the test matrix are then visible on the Questions tab.

Test settings and passing criteria

When creating an exam, you have control over various test settings, such as the option for retakes, or setting a time limit.

Via the completion conditions, you can determine when a user has completed the exam.

Adding a section

You can also add a 'regular' section to an exam, just like you would in an e-learning. A section can contain various learning formats, such as a text, tab, or hotspot image. You can use this section to introduce the test, or to provide a summary of the subject covered in the exam.
